Hi, I’m Beth Hayes. I’m so glad you’re here.
My Creative Life
I love making things. Always have. When I was young, my favorite stores were craft stores and fabric shops. My mom and dad kept me supplied with craft kits, sewing patterns and fabric. I loved learning new things and had something to show for it when I was finished.
Through the years, I would make things that friends, family, and coworkers would want to buy from me. I also sold my work at crafts shows.
I learned a few lessons regarding my art making:
1. I didn’t want to mass produce anything. One-of-a-kind made me happiest.
2. I didn’t love to sew, but it was the only way to get my designs out.
3. I didn’t want to follow someone else’s pattern. This lesson was at a huge cost, because I bought so many wonderful pattern books and printed patterns (especially quilt patterns) and then discovered that I wanted to “do my own thing.”
I’ve made stuffed animals, clothes, tote bags, purses, quilts and art quilt wall hangings. Then I discovered paint. First on fabric where I started with white fabric and stamped and painted and then made purses and tote bags from the fabric I created.

Next, I found watercolor. And, oh, the colors! This has been my most recent passion. I love the blends and bleeds of watercolor.
I want to spread joy with my whimsical designs and bright colors. I love it when others smile as they experience my art.
I love mixing photography and nature. Walking in forest preserves or around my neighborhood taking pictures, inspires me.
Painting stacks of vividly colored florals, butterflies and other natural elements is my passion. I live happily where ink meets color in bold contrast whether in watercolor, fabric painting or alcohol inks.
